Glauber's salt has similar effects to that of Epsom salts by acting as a mild laxative and also as a cathartic and diuretic. It binds to water in the intestines which increases the liquid content and triggers bowel movement. The salts are said to be able to remove deposits in the intestines which are excreted with the stool.
